What are stylish dogs wearing this summer?

Vera Woof and Pierre Curden here.  We postponed Fashion Friday to bring you this report from Woofstock 90210.

What you see at fashion shows is one thing, but we LOVE watching the sidewalks and neighborhoods to see what’s happening.

And what better place to do it than Woofstock. No three-day frolic in the mud with ultra loud music like it’s namesake of 45 years ago (can you believe it’s been that long since Woodstock?!), this was a day of adoptions, rescue organizations, treat samples, fashions, education and more.Vera: We just adored this dog for her careful attention to detail. Her leash was a chain of pale yellow beads that was the perfect accessory for her butter gold halter with train dress. The golden shoes were just a delightful touch.

Pierre: This adorable dog shows several trends in dog clothes we observed at Woofstock. First, note the sunglasses. Here in California, it’s fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun. Dogs can suffer from too much sun just like people.  For the dogs that tolerate it, we were glad to see the sunglasses. Bright sunshine is a definite contributor to cataracts.

Vera: The halter with train look is simply ubiquitous among the miniature set — Pomeranians, chihuahuas and poodles. Here’s a girl who knows how to accessorize herself out of the ordinary. Her blue and rhinestone top knot ornament was just perfect with her outfit.

Pierre: That brings up another trend we’ve been seeing: feathered ornaments for ears, top knots and collars. Think of them like boas for dogs — without anything to trip over.

The Woofstock pet parade really covered the gamut from the fancy to the simple and natural.  We were particularly fascinated by this dog and its companion. These dogs would have been at home on the sets of “A Game of Thrones.” What we particularly liked was that these costumes were handmade. Each was cut out of cardboard painted black and folded into fins. They were decorated with jewels and gilded net. Skirts of fabric fit under the dog’s ruff. The colors were perfect for this black, tan and white dog.  So original and such a good example that fine dog clothes don’t have to be designer styled or store bought!

Vera: I was quite taken by this pair modeling patriotic hats from BowMeow Pet Products. This is another alternative for blocking sun from a dog’s eyes.

Pierre: I always think it’s a shame that dog clothes are so dominated by frills. Medium to big dogs seem to be left in the cold when it comes to dog fashions.  I was quite excited to see a booth stocking these wonderful collars and ties for the he-dogs in your life. These are easy wear fashions that don’t interfere with a dog being a dog.  The maker, RoadWagz, also makes bow-tie styles. And once again we have those oh, so important Foster Grants!

Vera: Our final photo shows a dog with a wonderful sense of humor. This dog had a great moustache on its own, but sometimes, more is simply more.
