Break out the Little Black Dress and prepare to help Karma Rescue celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Lightspace Studios in Culver City.
You can kick up your paws from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. with other animal lovers while enjoying an open bar, vegetarian and vegan food, a puppy kissing booth and the Bow-WOW-ser boutique.
Tickets are on sale online now, but take note: the price goes up Oct. 1. And while you’re reaching for that mouse, be sure to register for the online auction and raffle tickets.
The auction includes a trip to Puerto Vallarta, signed Lakers basketballs, dining at great restaurants, yoga and wine tastings. The bidding starts Sept 20. Raffle prizes include four nights and five days in Cabo San Lucas (a $1,000 value), a new iPad and many, many more.
Founded in 2003 by Rande Levine, Karma Rescue saves “at-risk dogs from the high-kill Los Angeles area shelters. Karma provides each dog a new beginning and finds them safe and suitable homes.”
Weekly adoption events are held at PETCO Westwood from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
In addition to rescuing and fostering dogs, Karma educates people of all ages about dogs — from caring for them to the problems of breed stereotyping, from the value of adopting rather than buying dogs to problems caused by overpopulation and puppy mills. These programs are tailored to the audience’s age and reach out into the community into libraries and community day schools.
Whether you can attend the fundraiser or not, think about this: for as little as $5 a month, you can join Karma Rescue’s 10,000 Paws Project to secure its financial future by getting concerned donors to commit to one year of monthly donations at one of four levels.
